BAGS AND BODIES

Is There A Correlation?

Recently I was having a conversation with a woman about my love of bags. She shared my enthusiasm on all things except the monograms. Monogramed or not I'm sold on a good bag. We were having a great chat until she told me that because I was a bigger girl I was forced to love bags, because I couldn't fit into "normal" sized clothing. So accessories and bags were all I had to choose from. Well that's bizarre, because this whole time I just thought I had great taste in handbags! (some of my collection ^^^)

Sometimes when you're a bigger girl people feel entitled to comment on your body in a way they wouldn't a body that fell into their category of "normal". It's something I have come to terms with over years. The comment seemed to fall out of her mouth without a second thought, like it was a fact so it was safe for her to say.

I remember my very first real handbag I bought myself when I was 18 years old, a beige Coach baguette and I was hooked! They're what I saved my money for, what I would eat top ramen for, and what I would forgo shopping (for a little while at least) for.

After her comment I got to thinking about the correlation, or if there was a correlation between body size and bag loving. True there are many stores that I would love to shop for clothes in but can't. (Barneys can you hear me?) Or certain trends that never seem to hit the plus size circuit. (so disappointing!) But I feel that I have always found a way to stay true to my style and love of fashion, and have felt pretty damn good about the way I look in my style choices too. So the conclusion was an easy one, no matter what size you are, if you love bags, you love bags!

"To love yourself as you are is a miracle, and to seek yourself is to have found yourself, for now. And now is all we have, and love is who we are." Anne Lamott

P.S. That's my friend Irene (on the left) with her PASHLI and myself with one of my favs, the DIEGO. Our bodies couldn't be more different, but our love for handbags couldn't be more similar.
